The Montecito Fire Department responded to a first alarm structure fire Friday night.
It happened in the 1300 block of Plaza De Sonodares.
Officials say they received a call that someone smelled smoke. Fire officials were unable to find a fire and left the scene.
Shortly after, the same person reported smelling smoke again.
Officials searched a neighboring structure and detected a fire within its walls.
According to reports, the fire was at an unoccupied home under construction. Officials say there were no working smoke detectors.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
According to the National Fire Protection Association, almost two-thirds of home fire deaths happen at homes without a working smoke detector.
