Over the course of the last three weeks Santa Barbara Police Officers have arrested three juvenile males responsible for over $20,000 worth of graffiti damage throughout the city.
On June 13, at 8:57 a.m., an officer was on patrol when he noticed a tag that had been recently spray painted on the Anapamu Foot Bridge in Santa Barbara.
After looking at the tag on the bridge, the officer found other tags with stylistic similarities and says he was certain they were painted by the same suspect.
Santa Barbara Police say it was painted by a 17-year-old boy arrested for vandalism on April 19th. They say the boy confessed to committing the vandalism at the bridge, as well as other places.
On June 20th, police say a 15-year-old boy was arrested after they recognized similar elements in the tags around town.
There were extensive graffiti vandalisms to businesses and homes on Bath St., Carrillo St., Canon Perdido St., and De La Vina St.
The boy was also recently placed on probation as a result of a vandalism arrest prior to this incident.
Police say he was arrested after he was caught tagging on surveillance footage.
That same day, Santa Barbara Police Officers cited three youths who were in violation of the city's 10:00 p.m. Juvenile Curfew.
Police say after they were searched, a 16-year-old boy had Sharpie markers and mailing labels with tags written on them.
After more investigation police discovered six incidents where the tags appeared.
Police say the incidents took place on Kentia Ave., Pilgrim Terrace Dr., and Mission St.
Police served a search warrant and took the suspect into custody.
Police say two bags of Sharpie markers were seized and four scrapbooks with samples of his work.
