The number of children hospitalized with a hypertension-related illness nearly doubled between 1997 and 2006.
Doctors who analyzed a nationwide pediatric database think childhood obesity may be at least partly to blame.
Charges for inpatient care for kids with high blood pressure increased by 50%, reaching 3.1 billion.
The average time spent in the hospital for these children was double that of kids with other illnesses.
