The Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office says more than 225 people were arrested in Isla Vista during Halloween weekend, which started Thursday, October 31st and ran through Sunday, November 3rd.
Sheriff's Deputies arrested 225 people. Of those people, 173 were arrested for public intoxication.
249 people were given citations and 95 of those citations were for minors in possession of alcohol.
There were 48 medical calls and 42 of those patients were taken to a local hospital.
There were also 20 Search and Rescue calls.
Police conducted DUI checkpoints in Goleta and made 145 traffic stops. They issued 40 citations, found 10 minors in possession of alcohol, 16 open containers, and made two DUI arrests.
The California Highway Patrol arrested 18 people driving on Highway 101 in the Isla Vista area. They say nine of those drivers were arrested for DUI. They also issued 414 citations.
According to Sheriff's Deputies, the number of arrests and citations is similar to past Halloween weekends in Isla Vista, but the turnout this year was lower than expected. Deputies estimate about 12,000 to 15,000 people were in Isla Vista during the most crowded nights, including Halloween and Friday night. By Saturday, there were about 6,000 to 8,000 people in the area.
They believe the lower attendance may have been because a lot of students had midterms and it was UCSB'S parent's weekend. The university also held a campaign discouraging students at nearby colleges from visiting.
The Sheriff's Office says there were no major incidents reported in Isla Vista over the weekend.
Around 200 officers from different agencies were assigned to patrol each night.
It will still be several weeks before authorities are able to estimate the cost of the Halloween weekend operation.
