More Warriors, Knights named to FCA All-Star Football Classic

They've been rivals on the field for years, but this week players from the Righetti and St. Joseph High football teams came together to celebrate their selections to the third annual FCA All-Star Football Classic. St. Joseph fullback Wesley Williams, Righetti tight end Jacob Hummel, running back Taelor Griego and fullback/defensive end Jacob Baro were added to the Northern Santa Barbara County Team.

Saturday, June 1 at Lompoc High School the best from Northern SB County will line up against the top graduating seniors from San Luis Obispo County schools for Central Coast bragging rights. SB County leads the all-time series 2-0.

"I think we've got the best players, the best players we've played against are in our county. We've got us and Lompoc and Righetti, all the power houses I think," said Williams, an All-Pac 7 League First Team selection at fullback. He rushed for 825 yards and 10 touchdowns and also caught 2 passes for 40 yards, including a TD reception for the co-league champion Knights.

"Just all the hard work I put in during the season and everything, just to be a part of the All Star team and represent Santa Barbara County was a big deal," said Hummel, a late addition to the game for the Warriors. The 6-0, 185 pound tight end caught 14 passes for 211 yards and one touchdown for the Warriors.

Griego rushed for 426 yards on 66 carries and scored 5 touchdowns for the Warriors. He also made 43 tackles at linebacker for Righetti. Baro recorded 35 tackles and 2 sacks at defensive end for the Warriors.

The latest announcement was made at the Community Volkswagon and BMW of Santa Maria dealerships. "I grew up here in Santa Maria, my brother John did as well . We went to school here, we were raised here. I can't see a better reason to donate money and time," said co-owner Mark Bachman. The dealerships donated a total of $2,500 to the $20,000 car raffle prize.

Game and raffle ticket sales are now available at the fifteen participating schools. All proceeds from the game and raffle go directly back to the athletic departments. So far, the game has raised more than $280,000 for the schools in the previous two years.

A few weeks ago, lineman Dante Gamble, defensive back Luke Wilson, quarterback Troy Prober and receiver Adrian Guzman were named to the team from Righetti. Scotty Cusack, Zak Karsh, Eddie Araujo, Chas Brannon and Lucas Rantz were already selected from St. Joseph.
