Senior captain Holt Alden scored two goals as the Morro Bay soccer team beat Eastside, 3-2 in the wild card round of the Division 3 playoffs. The Pirates advance to the first round where they'll play at Oxnard on Friday.
Junior Daniel Abbiati headed in the first goal of the game halfway through the first half to give Morro Bay a 1-0 lead. Alden scored late in the first half and the Pirates took a 2-0 lead to the half.
Alden added his second goal early in the second half and Morro Bay held on for the win. The Pirates are now 14-8-4 on the season. They got into the playoffs as an at-large team after finishing in a tie with Nipomo for second place in the Los Padres League. Morro Bay was one of 18 teams in Division 3 to play in the wild card round.
Oxnard is 15-2-3 this season.
The Paso Robles boys lost at Baldwin Park 4-1 in a Division 5 wildcard game. The Bearcats finished the season 10-10-1.
Pioneer Valley blanked Wilson 2-0 in a D5 match to advance. Juan Robles and Damian Chavez scored for PV, which plays at Crossroads in Santa Monica Friday.
Santa Maria lost at Knight in Palmdale 3-2.
