Morro Bay girls basketball clinches outright LPL title

The Morro Bay girls basketball team stayed perfect in Los Padres League play and secured the outright league title Wednesday night with a 61-28 thumping of visiting Santa Maria.

Hannah Gilbert led the Pirates with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Morro Bay improved to 11-0 in league and 18-3 overall after their eleventh win in a row. The Pirates were the co-champions with Santa Ynez last season.

The Templeton girls stayed two games back in the standings of Morro Bay. The Eagles crushed visiting Cabrillo 81-36. Sophomores Lauren Stuedemann led and Mari Stewart led Templeton with 19 and 18 points respectively. Senior Jeanie Madson, Brooke Stewart and Rachel Parker combined for 34 points for Templeton. The Eagles improved to 9-2 in league and 18-7 overall.
