The Morro Bay High softball team erupted for three runs in the top of the eighth inning to upset first place Nipomo 4-1 in a Los Padres League battle on Friday.
The two teams shared the LPL title last year. Morro Bay improved to 4-3 in league play, while the Titans fell to 5-2.
Nipomo scored first in the bottom of the second inning when Destiny Fryckman scored on a wild pitch. The Pirates tied it in the third inning against Nipomo ace Courtney Cuzick. After there were two outs and nobody on, Kylie Gacad singled to left. She stole second and scored on a bloop hit by Haley Lamb that fell in between four Titans.
The game stayed tied 1-1 in a pitchers duel. Cuzick struck out 11 and issued 0 walks, but allowed 9 hits and 4 runs in eight innings.
The Titans were limited to 6 hits. Saundra Renner led Nipomo with 2 hits.
The Templeton softball team edged Santa Ynez 4-3 on Friday. The Pirates fell to 4-3 in LPL action, while the Eagles improved to 2-5. Santa Ynez committed 5 errors in the loss.
