The mayor of Morro Bay presented a report Tuesday night about choosing a legal counsel to deal with personnel issues against its city attorney, Robert Schultz. Mayor Jamie Irons still will not say why Schultz is on the outs.
In last night's nearly five hour long meeting, Mayor Irons addressed how he came about obtaining an outside legal counsel.
He said multiple local law firms were candidates, but Simas and Associates was finally chosen because of their experience with personnel issues, the fact that they have an office in San Luis Obispo, and there is no conflict of interest between the firm and anyone on council. A contract has been drafted, and Simas and Associates is supposed to get paid $250 an hour, but not exceed $12,500.
The city council will hold a special open session meeting this Friday at 9 am to discuss the search for an interim city attorney.
