Morro Bay rodeo legend dies

Well-known Morro Bay rancher and world-chamption rodeo man John W. Jones Sr died yesterday.

81-year old Jones won the ProRodeo world championship four times in steer-wresting and was a member of the ProRodeo Hall of Fame.

Friends say he could have had a lot more titles but didn't like to travel much. He raised a family on his ranch in Morro Bay and his son John Jr. went on to be a World Champion and his grand-daughters are earning titles in rodeo.

Jones Sr. and Jr. were the first father and son to win both the PRCA Rookie of the Year Award and a world championship.

Jones Sr. is survived by his wife, JoAnn; daughter, Sandra Eddleman, her husband, Dan, and daughter, Mattie; and son, John Jr., his wife, Sherrie, and their daughters, Katie and Shannon. Katie married New York Giants tight end Bear Pascoe on June 29, which was John and JoAnn's 56th wedding anniversary, at the Jones Ranch.

Funeral services are pending.
