Morro Bay's Long Taken in 7th Round of NFL Draft

Former Morro Bay High School star Jerome Long was selected by the Kansas City Chiefs in the seventh and final round of the NFL Draft on Saturday. The 6'5" 290-pound Long played four seasons, three as a starter for San Diego State.
The defensive tackle from Los Osos finished second on the Aztecs last season in tackles (69) and sacks (5.) He was named to the Mountain West Conference second team as a senior. At the NFL Combine he benched 225-pounds 23 times and cleared 23-inches in the vertical jump.
At Morro Bay High School Long helped the Pirates to a 10-0 regular season and first outright Los Padres League title in 36 years. Long was a 2007 first-team pick on the defensive line by CalHiSports.com and named the Los Padres League Lineman of the Year in 2007.
Kansas City had the 11th best defense in the league last season in terms of total yards allowed but were 27th in sacks.
Long was the 11th player taken in the seventh round and 218th overall in the draft. Earlier in the day, with the 169th pick, Baltimore drafted cornerback Asa Jackson from Cal Poly. Both players will now try and make the team during training camp. The league minimum salary for rookies is just under $400,000 per season.
