The Morro Bay volleyball team won a five game thriller against Channel Islands in the first round of the CIF Southern Section Division Three Playoffs.
After losing the first game 23-25, the Pirates won game two, 25-18 and game three, 25-23. Channel Islands won game four, 21-25 before the Pirates won the decisive fifth game, 15-10. The match was played in front of a big and boisterous crowd at Morro Bay High School and advances the Los Padres League champions to the second round.
Senior Edward Griley had 18 kills and two blocks for the Pirates. Fellow senior captain Marcus Zorovich had 46 assists.
The Pirates will play again on Thursday, at this time it is unknown who or where they will play.
