The Arroyo Grande High girls volleyball team opened its quest for its first Pac 7 title since 2009 with a dominant three set win over visiting St. Joseph on Thursday. The Eagles cruised 25-13, 25-11 and 25-12.
Sophomore setter Alaina Hogeboom dished out 38 assists in the win. Millisa Morrow led AG with 13 kills and 8 aces, while freshman Ashlyn Herlihy recorded 9 kills and 2 blocks. Junior Savana Welch fired off 5 aces.
Arroyo Grande improved to 12-3 on the season and 1-0 in league play. AG is ranked #9 this week in Division 2AA.
The Eagles play at Righetti next Tuesday, while the Knights fell to 3-5 overall and 0-1 in Pac 7 play. St. Joseph returns to action Saturday at Coast Union and hosts Lompoc in another non-league match on Monday.
The Knights finished tied for third at 5-7 last season in league play. They lost to Saugus in the first round of the CIF playoffs.
