Bryce Moses rushed for 302 yards and scored four touchdowns to lead the Cabrillo High football team to a 55-20 win over Santa Maria in its Los Padres League opener on Thursday night.
The Conquistadores snapped a three game losing skid and improved to 2-3 overall and 1-0 in league play. The Saints dropped to 0-1 in league play and 1-3 overall.
Moses started the scoring with a 1-yard touchdown run in the first quarter. Santa Maria responded with a 44 yard TD run by David Owens to make it a 7-6 game. The Conquistadores regained the lead 14-7 on a 27 yard run from quarterback Gage Buckley. Santa Maria responded with a 65 yard TD strike from Dom Garrett to Devon Brock in the second quarter to tie it 14-14. The two connected a short time later on a 56 yard TD as the Saints took a 20-14 lead. Moses ran in two touchdowns to give Cabrillo a 28-20 lead at halftime.
Moses racked up 199 yards in the first half and finished with 302 for the game. Zach Fort and Vinny Rodriguez added 50 yards apiece for the Conquistadores.
Garrett, a sophomore quarterback, threw for 282 yards on 14 for 21 passing. Brock racked up nearly 160 receiving yards and 2 TD.
Cabrillo returns to action next Friday at home against Santa Ynez, while the Saints host Templeton.
