Three people including a mother and son have been booked into the Santa Barbara County Jail, accused of attacking a man with two tire irons.
Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a call Tuesday at 7:20 p.m., about a fight involving several individuals in the Von's parking lot on the 100 block of South Turnpike Road in unincorporated Santa Barbara County.
Upon investigation Sheriff's deputies said they found that a 44-year-old Carpinteria man had been in a fight with three other people who used tire irons to assault him. The victim told police he and another woman drove to Von's to pick up some groceries.
The woman stayed in her car while the man got out with the intention of walking inside the store.
On his way into the store, he got into a verbal exchange with Giovanni Aceves, 21. Deputies said the altercation turned into a physical fight. At that time Aceves' mother, Carmen Aceves, 51, and a man she was with, Charlez Dorado, 33, got out of their own car and joined in on the altercation.
The victim told Sheriff's deputies that Dorado went back into his car during the fight and grabbed a tire iron which he used to attack him. Deputies said Carmen Aceves was also equipped with a tire iron that the victim said was used as well.
The victim told Sheriff's deputies that at this point his female companion got out of their vehicle and tried yelling for help. He said Giovanni Aceves proceeded back to his own vehicle at that time and grabbed a knife which he used to slash the victim's tires. The woman told Sheriff's deputies that Giovanni Aceves also tused the knife to threaten her before all three suspects fled in their vehicle.
Several minutes later Sheriff's deputies spotted the suspects' SUV on Turnpike Road south of Hollister Avenue. Deputies pulled the vehicle over and discovered a knife and two irons inside the vehicle.
Giovanni Aceves, Carmen Aceves and Charles Dorado were booked into the Santa Barbara County Jail on various felony assault charges. Their bail is set at $30,000.
Deputies said the victim refused medical treatment.
