Motorcyclist plows into friend, killing them both

SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) Two childhood friends are dead after one crashed his motorcycle into the other outside of his home in Santa Clara.

Santa Clara police said 35-year-old Mark Scott Smith Jr. plowed into 39-year-old Nicole Marie Keefe on Sunday just after midnight. She was waiting for him in the road outside of his house.

Smith was not wearing a helmet, police said. He died at the scene. Keefe died shortly afterward at a hospital.

Smith had two sons, according to police.
