Santa Barbara Museum officials started a huge project today, to move their blue whale skeleton to Novato, California.

The skeleton, located at the Museum of Natural History, needs to be restored, but it has to be taken apart first. This morning, officials began to dismantle the whale, starting with the fins. Then, rib by rib, each bone was removed. The bones will be trucked away, and will return home around September.
