Monkey bars and climbing walls aren't just for kids any more. In fact, the fittest of adults are training hard to spend a few hours in an adult playground that is really more like a boot camp.

The fun is coming to the central coast this weekend for the first time. It's the First Annual Mud Mash X and it kicks off Saturday in the beautiful outdoors of the Santa Margarita Ranch.

Event planners expect about 1-thousand people to compete in 10-mile or 4-mile races through about 25 obstacles. They'll be doing things like climbing a 12-foot linoleum wall, smoothed down with Crisco, or hopping across Lilly pads of 8-by-8 foot platforms floating on a reservoir.

Participants might even catch a glimpse of some wildlife out on the ranch when they're trudging along, like boars, golden eagles and lots of deer. Event planner Yishai Horowitz says it's not too late to sign up, but it might be too late to START training. "You probably want to be in good enough shape to do a half marathon but not want to do one because this is a lot more fun. Tons of beautiful views, up hills, down hills, and the obstacles." You can, though, do it with teammates. You can enter a team of as many as 10. Then enjoy a fun party afterwards.

The event benefits the John Wayne Cancer foundation and the Navy Seal Foundation.
