It's good dirty fun in San Luis Obispo this weekend. The Annual Mud Mash has raised money for SLO County Special Olympics for the past four years, and organizers say look for the biggest and best yet this year. They're expecting about 1000 costumed participants this Saturday, October 26th.
The Mud Mash features an obstacle course inspired by the military, rock climbing, nature, and lots of memorable moments along a 5k route. (It's technically a run, but you may be laughing so hard to run at some points as you watch your friends slip slide and slither their way through the course.)
Construction began yesterday with the All Out Events team focusing on larger obstacles on the Laguna Lake side, moving today to the Madonna property. Obstacles installed include a 20' high climb and cargo crawl across an access road, reed mazes, floating balance beams, an environmentally friendly foam pit, water slide, and of course mud pits.
Race director and course designer Yishai Horowitz: "I cannot wait to see the look on people's faces this year - we have really outdone ourselves, and we're so grateful to the engineers and local businesses that donated their time, supplies, and equipment to make this amazing course - we hope they find it rivals more well known, national series."
It's a great way to lose your inhibitions and feel like a kid again, see what you're capable of, and take part in an out of the ordinary 5K for a really good cause.
Anyone at any age can register, but to do it along you have to be 13 or older. There is a free and fun Piglet Mash for the wee, wee, wee ones to run through a mud pit and enjoy the joy of finishing a challenge like this. (They'll also get candy, because it is, after all a Halloween themed event.)
Costumes are encouraged, and there's a costume contest at the after party, where you'll have the option to hose off, grab a free beer (for the 21 and older) and check out our food and others.
Put a team together and help raise money for the SLO County Bicycle Coalition.
THERE ARE NO DAY-OF REGISTRATIONS, so if you want to do this, don't procrastinate. Full registration closed Wednesday night, but limited late registration is available until Friday at 9 p.m.
