Murder conviction in case of deadly crash

A Bakersfield man was found guilty Friday of second degree murder for a deadly crash on Highway 46 last year.

It happened in a construction zone outside of Paso Robles on November 7, 2012.

Jerad Cross, 31, was driving under the influence of drugs when he failed to see traffic stopped in front of him. The truck he was driving slammed into the back of a pickup truck driven by Richard Gamez, 45, of Clovis.

Gamez's truck was pushed into the back of another large truck, and Gamez was killed.

Cross was also found guilty of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, driving with a suspended license, and possession of drug paraphernalia. He will be sentenced on December 18.
