Cal Poly linebacker Kennith Jackson has been named to the Beyond Sports Network Football Championship Subdivision Preseason All-American third team.
The 6-0, 230 pound senior-to-be was Cal Poly's second-leading tackler last fall with 80, including 40 solo stops and 40 assisted tackles. He also recorded 6.0 tackles for lost yardage, including one sack, broke up eight passes, hurried the quarterback twice, recovered a fumble and intercepted a pair of passes.
A first-team All-Great West Conference linebacker last season, ranked second in the conference in passes defended per game (.91) and sixth in tackles.
Three Mustangs have also been honored by College Football Performance Awards. Senior quarterback Andre Broadous, sophomore punter Paul Hundley and junior defensive lineman Sullivan Grosz have been placed on the Watch List at their respective positions.
Cal Poly posted a 6-5 mark in 2011, its eighth winning season in the last nine years, and claimed its fourth Great West title, more than any other school in the eight-year history of the conference.
The Mustangs open preseason practice on Monday, August 6, in preparation for the Sept. 1 opener against the University of San Diego at 4:05 p.m. in Alex G. Spanos Stadium.
