Mustang Madness, Cal Poly sports recap

Cal Poly Football

The Mustangs finished the season with a 42-14 win at Northern Colorado to finish 6-6, the Bears end the season 1-11. Sophomore quarterback Chris Brown threw an interception that was returned for a touchdown but he also threw two touchdown passes and ran for another. Senior safety Alex Hubbard had one of the Mustangs four interceptions and he also returned a kick-off 94 yards for a score. It was Cal Poly's first touchdown by kick-off return in 11 years. The Mustangs finish 5-3 in the Big Sky which is good enough for a fourth place tie. Eastern Washington went undefeated in the conference for the championship.

Cal Poly Men's Basketball

The Mustangs are now 1-3 after a 78-39 win over Bathesda. The National Christian College Athletic Association team was no match for Cal Poly who was led by junior Dave Nwaba's 14 points and 8 rebounds. 14 Mustangs played in the win. Next up, the team travels to Eugene, Oregon for games on Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the Oregon-hosted Global Sports Hardwood Challenge.

Cal Poly Women's Basketball

The Mustangs let a 36-24 halftime lead slip away in a 77-69 loss at Saint Mary's. Cal Poly drops to 2-4 while the Gaels improve to 5-0. Junior guard Ariana Elegado paced the Mustangs with 14 points and 7 assists. Cal Poly hosts Akron on Friday and San Francisco next Saturday.

Cal Poly Volleyball

The Mustangs finished the home portion of their season with a 3-1 loss to Cal State Fullerton. Cal Poly drops to 5-9 in the Big West and 11-16 overall. The Mustangs finish the season with games at UC Irvine (Friday) and Long Beach State (Saturday).

Cross Country

Sophomore Laura Hollander finished 75th in the women's 6K race at the NCAA Championships. Senior Chris Frias finished 119th in the men's 10K race. Runners had to deal with wind gusts of 20 miles per hour and wind chills under 20 degrees at the meet held in Terre Haute, Indiana.
