Three Cal Poly football players were given player of the week awards for their efforts in the Mustangs 24-22 win at the University of Wyoming.
Senior slotback Deonte Williams was named Big Sky Co-Offensive Player of the Week after rushing for 187 yards and a touchdown. Williams' touchdown run was from 65 yards out on Cal Poly's first possession. He added a 74 yard run on the Mustangs second possession to set up another touchdown. Williams transferred to Cal Poly before last season from Sierra Junior College.
Junior Bobby Zalud was named Big Sky Special Teams Player of the Week and national Special Teams Player of the Week by The Sports Network. The transfer from Arkansas State made a 51 yard field goal to put Cal Poly up 24-15 early in the fourth quarter. Zalud also averaged 42.2 yards on eight punts while all but one of his five kickoffs went for touchbacks.
In addition, senior cornerback Nico Molino was named by College Sports Madness as its Big Sky Defensive Player of the Week. Molino sealed Cal Poly's win with a late interception.
The 2-0 Mustangs host UC-Davis on Saturday at 6:05 in a game that can be seen on KSBY-TV. It will be the Big Sky Conference opener for both teams.
