Junior forward Anthony Silvestri had a career game but it wasn't enough to carry Cal Poly to a win at Delaware. The Blue Hens controlled the final 26 minutes in an 82-72 win. The Mustangs finish the non-conference portion of their schedule, 4-9. Delaware improves to 8-7.
Silvestri scored 14 points on 5-6 shooting in 19 minutes. The 6'7" forward came to Cal Poly as a walk-on. Senior guard Kyle Odister added 12 points for Cal Poly which traded 14 first-half leads with the Blue Hens.
The Mustangs were ahead 24-23 with 8:15 to play in the first half but never led again as Delaware ended the half on a 24-9 run.
It was Cal Poly's second trip to the east coast this season, the Mustangs lost 73-56 at Pittsburgh on December 21st. It was Cal Poly's first game against a team from the Colonial Athletic Association. The Mustangs out shot (43.9 percent) Delaware (37.7) from the floor and sank 12 three-pointers, but the Blue Hens hit 32 free throws.
Cal Poly opens its 18th season of Big West Conference play at home against Hawai'i (11-3) on Thursday at 7:00pm. The Mustangs have won 14 straight Big West home games.
