The Cal Poly football team closed an historic season ranked #11 in the final FCS Coaches Poll and #12 in the final Sports Network Media Poll of the season that were released on Monday.
The Mustangs went 9-3 under head coach Tim Walsh. They shared the Big Sky title with Eastern Washington and Montana State in their first year as members of the conference. Cal Poly advanced to the FCS playoffs for only the third time in program history before falling to Sam Houston State in the second round.
The Mustangs received 1,930 points in the media poll and 378 points in the coaches poll.
North Dakota State, which won its second straight national title Saturday to finish 14-1 overall, finished atop both national polls. Sam Houston State, which finished as national runner-up for the second year in a row, finished as the #2 ranked team.
Eastern Washington finished fourth and Montana State fifth in both polls. Northern Arizona ended at #20 to give the Big Sky four teams in the top 20.
Five teams with four losses finished ahead of the Mustangs in the Coaches Poll. Sam Houston State (11-4) was #2, Georgia Southern (12-4) was #3, 9-4 Woffard finished #7, 8-4 Appalachian State was #8 and 9-4 Illinois State came in 9th.
