Four Cal Poly seniors celebrated their final game at Spanos Stadium with a 1-0 win over UCSB, ensuring that their season extends to the Big West Tournament.
The Mustangs dominated play but weren't able to score until Sara Epps set up Elise Krieghoff for a goal in the 73rd minute. It was Krieghoff's team best 11th goal of the season. The freshman is now tied for fifth place in program history for most goals in a single season.
The Mustangs took 17 shots to the Gauchos 13. Cal Poly freshman goalkeeper, Alyssa Giannetti made 5 saves while Makenna Henry made seven for the Gauchos.
Jessie Duller, Cici Kobinski, Julie McKee and Shandon Rovetta were the four Cal Poly seniors who played for a final time at Spanos Stadium.
The win improved the Mustangs to 6-1-2 in the Big West, putting them one point behind first place Cal State Fullerton. Cal Poly is one of four teams that advance to the Conference Tournament. The Big West Tournament starts on Thursday at UC Irvine. The Mustangs will play Cal State Northridge in the first round. The teams played to a 2-2 draw at Cal Poly on October 12. Cal State Northridge will play UC Irvine in the other semifinal. The winners will advance to the championship on Saturday.
