Some San Luis Obispo residents woke up to an unusual stench Wednesday morning.

The San Luis Obispo City Fire Department tells KSBY News they received several calls of a strong natural gas odor over a wide area of southern San Luis Obispo. Residents from Tank Farm Rd. and Broad St. to Los Osos Valley Rd. and Madonna Rd. reported smelling the mysterious stench. Fire officials say the strongest odor was around the car dealerships located on Los Osos Valley Rd.

The fire department alerted The Gas Company and people from both groups investigated. But, officials could not get any measurement of a gas leak in the area.

The smell is now dissipating. There is no word on what caused the smell.
