Cabrillo High running back Bryce Moses and Santa Ynez High's doubles team of Bree Jensen and Reagan Mroz were named Athletes of the Week on Monday by the Northern Santa Barbara County Athletic Roundtable.
Moses, a 6-0 junior, earned Male Athlete of the Week after he rushed for 300 yards and scored four touchdowns in the Conquistadores' 55-20 win over Santa Maria last Thursday. He helped Cabrillo win its Los Padres League opener and snap a three game losing skid. The 300 rushing yards are the highest single-game total by a Central Coast running back this season in the 11-man football ranks.
Cabrillo head coach Craig Knowles accepted the award on Moses' behalf.
Jensen and Mroz were named Co-Female Athlete of the Week. Jensen, a junior, and Moses, a sophomore, went a perfect 9-0 last week for the Santa Ynez High girls tennis team. They only dropped a total of two out of the 56 games they played last week. They swept their sets 6-1, 6-1, 6-0 in their team's 15-3 win over Lompoc. They won three sets 6-0 in a 16-2 league match over Morro Bay. They also won three sets 6-0 in a non-league match over the weekend against Capistrano Valley.
The two recently started playing together. They're hoping last week's success is a sign of what's to come for them.
"We've only played for about 3 weeks. So it's basically about communication. Our coach has been switching us around from #1 to #2 doubles so we're just trying to keep our number one spot," said Jensen.
"I found out I had Bree as a partner this year. She's a new partner. We have a good strong doubles team overall," added Mroz.
The Roundtable meets every Monday from 12-1pm at Giovanni's Pizzeria in Orcutt.
