The Northern Santa Barbara County Athletic Roundtable honored the area's finest once again on Monday in Orcutt.
Santa Ynez High's Katie Voorhies received the Female Athlete of the Week award. The senior won all five of her singles sets 6-0 last week for the first place Pirates. Santa Ynez beat Santa Maria 17-1 and Lompoc 17-1 to stay undefeated in Los Padres League play.
"We're all really good friends so it's helpful for games and stuff. And we're all really close so we're having fun," said Voorhies.
The Santa Ynez tennis team is ranked fifth this week in the CIF Division 4 Coaches Poll.
Lompoc High football star Rafael Arellano earned Male Athlete of the Week honors. The senior caught 3 passes for 133 yards and two touchdowns in last Friday's 49-0 win at Santa Maria. He helped the Braves win their 27th-straight game, which is the longest active winning streak in California.
"We had a great game. we executed very well, everyone did. I had 3 catches, 2 for touchdowns and it was an awesome experience," said Arellano, who two weeks ago had 1 touchdown pass, 1 touchdown catch and 1 interception in the Braves' win at Templeton.
