Khufu Najee poured in a game-high 26 points to lead the Allan Hancock College men's basketball team to a 88-79 upset over first place LA Pierce College on Wednesday in a Western State Conference game.
The Bulldogs improved to 4-1 in WSC play and entered a three-way tie for first with LA Pierce and Ventura.
Najee added 3 steals for the Bulldogs, who led 39-31 at the half. Leon Fisher dished out 7 assists. Demetrius Thomas added 19 points and Josh Varney tallied 13. Both Thomas and Varney led the Bulldogs with 9 rebounds apiece.
The Cuesta men continued their struggles with a 90-67 loss at Ventura. The Cougars dropped to 2-3 in conference and 15-11 for the year. Plamen Hristov led the Cougars with 21 points.
The Lady Cougars lost at Ventura 72-56. The Cuesta fell to 3-2 in conference and 15-9 overall. The Cougars are in second place behind Ventura and Santa Barbara City College, who are both 4-1.
The Cougars host Moorpark on Saturday with the men playing at 5pm and the women at 7 pm.
