NEW YORK (AP) Washington Nationals third baseman Jerry Hairston has been suspended one game and fined an undisclosed amount for making contact with umpire Ed Hickox during a game against the San Diego Padres.
Major League Baseball announced the discipline Sunday, citing Hairston's "aggressive actions" during the bottom of the seventh inning of Friday night's game in Washington. Hairston is appealing the decision.
The Nationals and Padres were concluding their series Sunday.
