NBC's hit musical drama "Smash" returns for the start of season two tonight.
It's a two hour premiere, which will help introduce some new faces to the show.
Jennifer Hudson gets to play a Broadway star.
"One minute you're in the studio, the next second, you're doing choreography, the next second, you're acting. It's a huge challenge, but I love it," she says.
Even though Hudson is in the spotlight her character isn't competing with the wanna-be stars played by Megan Hilty and Katharine McPhee.
"She's more of a mentor to all of them. She's been there, done that. And they're aspiring to be who she is and where she is," Hudson explains.
Jeremy Jordan is another newcomer on the show.
Jordan one half of an aspiring song writing team...a younger version of Tom and Julia.
Jordan's part of an infusion of younger actors on the show creating a new musical that provides a rival to "Bombshell".
Expect fewer personal side dramas in the new season, but a sharper focus on the drama that is Broadway.
Lots of guest stars lined up for this season, including Liza Minelli, Jesse L. Martin and Debra Messing's buddy from her "Will and Grace" Days, Sean Hayes.
