Hundreds of people in Los Osos have received notices from Golden State Water Company to boil their water.
Golden State Water Company District Manager Ken Petersen says a contractor working on the Los Osos Sewer Project hit a water line in front of the fire station on Tuesday. He says the line was old and crews did not know it existed.
The break caused a loss of water pressure for nearly 290 homes and several businesses. The area affected includes five blocks east and west of Bayview Heights Boulevard, south of Los Osos Valley Road and north of Ocean View Place.
People in that area were without water for about eight hours on Tuesday. When water service returned, they were told to boil the water before drinking it as a precaution.
Petersen says Golden State Water Company will test the water quality tonight, and everything should be back to normal by tomorrow morning.
