Neighbors shocked after apparent murder-suicide near San Miguel

A local couple is dead after what sheriff's deputies are calling an apparent murder-suicide near San Miguel. Sheriff's Deputies said it all happened on the 2400 block of Rock Ridge Lane around 9:45 Tuesday morning.

Denny Colbert, a neighbor, was shocked to see a swarm of investigators at his neighbor's house. Colbert said a retired couple in their 60's and 70's lived at the home. The woman he said was a former teacher and was suffering from Dementia and Alzheimer's disease. He said her husband had battled throat cancer and was in remission, but had been working hard to take care of his wife and the 20 acres of land they owned. Colbert said, "I couldn't believe it. Like I said, just the best neighbors you could ever, ever wish to have. They're the nicest people."

Sheriff's deputies said a person living at the home made the discovery. Colbert said she's a family friend who was living with the couple to help the husband care for his wife. KSBY News Reporter Monica Quintero will have a live report on KSBY News at 5 and 6.
