At a press conference Wednesday afternoon, Arroyo Grande Mayor Tony Ferrara and Arroyo Grande Police Chief Steve Annibali announced the arrest of Arroyo Grande City Councilman Ed Arnold Jr.

Police say Arnold was involved in a violent domestic dispute with a 28-year-old woman he had been living with. The altercation took place at a mutual friend's home on the 800 block of Turquiose Drive in Arroyo Grande. When police were called to the house, they said Arnold fled the scene. He was arrested at Oak Park Boulevard and Noyes Road at 11:45 p.m. Tuesday evening on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, burglary, and inflicting corporal injury on his current or former spouse or cohabitant.

The victim, who is also a city employee, was transported to a local hospital. She was treated for her injures and has been released.

Arnold is married to another woman, who he also lives with.

He was booked into the San Luis Obispo County Jail, and posted $50,000 bail and was later released.

He is set to appear in court on Dec. 30.
