Airline passengers get relief from long delays on the tarmac

A new federal law prohibits airlines in the U-S from holding passengers inside a plane on a tarmac for more than three hours. The law requires carriers to provide food and water for passengers within two hours of the aircraft being delayed on the tarmac and to maintain operable restrooms.
The new law was passed as a response to a series of incidents in which passengers were stranded on the ground inside airplanes for long periods.
The new law is only valid for domestic flights. It goes into effect in about three months.
