The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation unveiled a new mental health treatment facility at the California Men's Colony in San Luis Obispo on Wednesday.
It will provide in-patient care to inmates who require 24-hour a day treatment.
In a different part of the facility, another 50 inmates can receive in-patient care.
A team of psychiatrists, nurses, therapists and psychologists were added to the CMC staff.
Officials say as many as 25% of inmates housed at the prison need access to mental health treatment.
The 45,000 square foot facility was funded through Assembly Bill 900.
