New movie theater to offer $2 showings for charity

The new movie theater at the Santa Maria Town Center mall will be open soon, but you can get a sneak peek this weekend and help out some local charities.

From Sunday through Tuesday, you can see a movie, get popcorn and a soda for $2 each at the new theater. The money raised each day will go to a different charity.

"It's all state of the art," said Amber Lease, assistant property manager. "It's absolutely beautiful, from the lighting fixtures down to the chairs in each of the rooms, it's absolutely gorgeous."

Opening night is Wednesday, then the theater will be open for regular business on Thursday.

"Hunger Games: Catching Fire" will be the first movie to show.
