In 2014, you'll no longer be ticketed if you park at a broken parking meter in California.
Gov. Jerry Brown signed a bill making it illegal for any city in the state to ticket someone who parks at a broken meter.
For San Luis Obispo, this is nothing new. The city says it already does not issue tickets for broken parking meters. However, Parking Services wants to remind everyone to pay attention to the screen on the credit card meters. Often times, the parking meter does not read the credit card and in that case, you will get a ticket.
Tampering with a parking meter can also get you in trouble, even arrested.
