New program aims to help homeowners add solar panels

Taking advantage of solar energy is getting easier for people in San Luis Obispo County.

Solarize San Luis Obispo County is a group purchasing program designed to make it easier for county residents to add solar power to their homes.

The Economic Vitality Corporation and the Community Environmental Council are bringing Solarize to SLO County after the program's success in Santa Barbara and Ventura Counties.

"This program is available to homeowners in San Luis Obispo County with a roof or an open space that is suitable to add solar panels to," said Jefferson Litten, Solarize Program Coordinator for CEC.

Part of the program's goal is to help stimulate the local economy by using local contractors and tradespeople.
