New government regulations will allow patients to get test results directly from the lab, without going through a doctor.
According to the Department of Health and Human Services, the new rule will give patients more control over their health care and reduce mistakes.
Medical groups worried allowing patients to see test results without a doctor's explanation could do more harm than good, but the groups didn't oppose the new regulation.
Experts say doctors should still call patients and check in regardless of what the test results show.
