New vaccine shows promise in treating Chikungunya virus

Scientists say a newly developed vaccine may protect people against the Chikungunya virus.

The mosquito-borne illness, which causes severe joint pain, headache, and fever, has spread to the United States over the past year.

In a study, 23 healthy volunteers were given different dosages of the vaccine over a 20-week span.

All of them built up antibodies to the Chikungunya virus for at least 11 months after the final vaccination, including those who got the lowest dose.
