San Luis Obispo High graduate and Cuesta catcher Michael Nieporte sparked a six-run rally in the third inning to lead the San Luis Obispo Rattlers to a 15-5 win over the visiting Santa Maria Reds on Tuesday night at Sinsheimer Stadium.
Nieporte led off the third inning and scored the first run of the game on a groundball hit by Marc Flores. Charlie Sharrer added a two-run single to make it a 3-0 game. Stephen Takahashi singled in another run to make it a four-run rally. The Rattlers batted around in the frame as Nieporte delivered a two-run single to left-field to cap a six run third inning.
Nieporte finished with 3 hits and 3 RBI and 2 runs scored. Trevor Nathanson added 3 hits. Steven Lozier and Sharrer added 2 hits and scored 3 times each.
The Rattlers pounded out 13 hits and took advantage of 7 errors by the Reds' fields. The Rattlers committed 5 errors themselves in the win.
Chad DeLaGuerra led the Reds with 2 hits in 3 at-bats and 2 runs scored.
The teams continue their three game series on Wednesday at 6pm.
