Nineteen area teams ranked in first CIF polls of 2013

After a three week break for the holidays, the CIF-Southern Section released its first wave of coaches polls of the New Year on Monday. Nineteen Central Coast high school teams are ranked to start 2013 as league title races start to heat up.

The Atascadero High boys basketball team went from an unranked team to #8 in its division. After an impressive preseason run, the St. Joseph boys climbed seven spots to #3 in Division 4A to be the highest ranked boys squad from the Central Coast. Valley Christian Academy is the highest ranked girls basketball team from the Central Coast at #2, while the San Luis Obispo, Paso Robles, Coast Union and Cabrillo girls teams entered the polls this week for the first time this season.
