Nipomo and Santa Ynez cruise in CIF openers, Cabrillo loses

The Nipomo High girls volleyball team captured its first CIF playoff win since 2007 with a 3-0 sweep of El Monte on Tuesday night. The Titans advanced to Thursday's second round of the CIF Division 3A playoffs.

The Titans cruised 25-12, 25-13 and 25-8 to improve to 18-8 overall.

Cristina Ozzimo led the Titans with 32 assists. Paige Waymire led the Titans with 16 kills. Taylor Nevitt and Kiana Worth had 5 kills apiece, while Sarah Stahl paced the Titans with 23 digs.

Nipomo plays at Crean Lutheran on Thursday in a second round match. Crean Lutheran swept San Gogonio in the first round.

The Cabrillo volleyball team lost at La Sierra in the first round 25-14, 25-12 and 25-19. The Conquistadores finished the season 16-9.

Santa Ynez swept Carter in a first round match. The Pirates won 25-12, 25-19 and 25-16 to improve to 20-12. They play the winner of the Jurupa Valley/Covina match.

Templeton swept Arrowhead Christian 25-12, 25-13 and 25-13 to move on to the second round. Heather Fields led the Eagles with 11 kills, while Carly Roth added 10 and Autumn Russell finished with 8 kills. Lindsey Wyatt finished with 13 digs. Templeton plays San Dimas in the second round. A coin flip on Wednesday will determine the home team.
