Nipomo football advances to second round of CIF

You have another reason to remember the Titans.

Saturday night, the Nipomo High football team beat Verbum Dei 39-12 in a Northwest Division first round playoff game. They led 24-0 at halftime.

The Titans captured the program's first ever postseason win during their second ever CIF playoff appearance.

Athletic Director Laurie Decker told KSBY Sports that Kevin Britt had two receiving touchdowns and Eric Penningroth caught one TD pass and ran for another score in the win. Josh Correia threw for nearly 150 yards and had three touchdown passes.

Nipomo improved to 8-3 on the year. They punched their ticket in to the second round where they will host #2 seed Serra next Friday night at 7:30 pm.

Serra beat Oak Park 54-6 in its first round game to improve to 11-0. The Cavaliers have outscored their opponents 494-92 this season.

The Titans are the third Los Padres League team to advance in to this year's second round.

They remain in the CIF Northwest Division title hunt along with Pioneer Valley and St.Joseph.

Mission Prep is the only other area team left in the postseason. The Royals are in the Division V bracket in the Central Section.
