Nipomo High graduate Josh Correia has earned a chance to play quarterback at a four-year university. Correia has accepted a scholarship to play football at Assumption College, a Division II program in Worcester, Massachusetts.
Correia, who's listed as 6-2, 215 pounds, earned the opportunity after a successful sophomore season at Harnetll College. He threw for 1,755 yards and 13 touchdowns. Correia completed 51 percent of his passes. Hartnell went 6-4 overall and tied for first in the Coast Conference at 4-1.
" I set out three years ago to accomplish a full-ride scholarship to go to school and I did that. I always had aspirations to play Division I ball, but really to get my education paid for while playing the sport I love and to accomplish that goal is just so self-rewarding. I'm really happy for it," said Correia.
Josh earned All-Los Padres League First Team honors his senior year at Nipomo High. He led the Central Coast with 1,809 passing yards and 20 touchdown passes. He helped Nipomo record its first-ever CIF playoff victory.
The Assumption College Greyhounds play in the Northeast-10 Conference and open the season September 7 at FCS-level Bryant University. They will be led in 2013 by first-year head coach Bob Chesney.
Correia plans to major in psychology.
