For the second-straight week, a Central Coast female athlete has been named California Player of the Week by MaxPreps and the American Volleyball Coaches Association.
Nipomo High outside hitter Paige Waymire earned the honor for the week of September 10-16. The senior tallied 80 kills in 12 games played for the Titans for an average of 6.667 per game. The 5-11 Waymire also recorded 36 digs, 3 blocks and 4 aces.
Waymire was instrumental in the Titans 3-0 week. She fired off 29 kills in a five game win over Righetti and followed that up with a 19 kill effort in a sweep of St. Joseph. Paige hammered down 32 kills in a huge four game win over Santa Ynez, the Pirates' first Los Padres League loss in seven years.
The Titans are off to an 8-0 start. She recorded a team-high 13 kills in the Titans 3-0 win over Morro Bay on Thursday.
Earlier this month, Arroyo Grande High sophomore Alaina Hogeboom earned the honor for the week of 9/3 to 9/9. The setter recorded 269 assists in 24 games played. She averaged 11.2 assists per game, while tallying 10 kills, 10 digs and 7 aces along the way.
