The Nipomo High boys soccer team capped an historic regular season on Thursday by capturing a piece of the program's first-ever Los Padres League title. The Titans scored twice in the second half to beat Cabrillo 2-0 in both teams league finales.
Nipomo, Cabrillo and Santa Ynez started the night in a three-way tie for first place in the LPL at 9-2. The Titans share the title with Santa Ynez. The Pirates shutout Templeton 5-0 to clinch a piece of the crown. Nipomo will be the league's number one seed in the CIF playoffs by virtue of a tiebreak and is guaranteed to host a first round game next week. The playoff brackets will be released on Monday.
Caleb Doane broke the scoreless game in the second half with his 20th goal of the season. Kenny Cromer added an insurance score when he headed in a deflected shot with less than 10 minutes to play in the match. Nipomo goalie Erubey Ponce recorded 12 saves to record the shutout.
The Titans captured their ninth-straight win and improved to 13-9-3 overall and 10-2 in league play under head coach Billy Vinnedge.
Despite finishing in third place in the standings, Cabrillo still advanced into the CIF playoffs along with Lompoc.
