IRVINE, Calif. (AP) - Prosecutors have declined to file charges against the father of an 11-month-old girl found alone and strapped into a car seat in the parking lot of an Irvine Valley Community College.
Orange County district attorney's officials told City News Service Wednesday there was insufficient evidence that 33-year-old Jason Buchea of Costa Mesa had committed a crime.
Irvine police said witnesses found the girl in the parking lot at the school, where Buchea was working temporarily as a musical accompanist.
While Irvine police looked for the parents, Buchea called Costa Mesa police and reported the girl missing. Police found Buchea, questioned him and arrested him.
It was not clear how the or why the child was left, but after a precautionary trip to the hospital she was determined to be fine.
